MMA means Mixed Martial Arts, and it consists of grappling, striking, and submission fighting. Mixed Martial Arts is sweeping the country and the sports world. Mixed Martial Arts is both a style and not a style simultaneously. Mixed Martial Arts, in its simplest definition, is a mixture of different martial arts styles. History:Once upon a time in the year of 2006 in a city called Tampa an explosion occurred between man and mixed martial arts.

As a result from this explosion a company was created called Mixed Martial Arts World Fighting Championships (M. Mixed Martial Arts incorporates the best of well established Martial Arts. MMA stands for “Mixed Martial Arts” and has been around in the US since the early 90's; but not until recently has it exploded in popularity, and many times these days it beats both boxing and professional wrestling in pay per view buys.

The rising interest in mixed martial arts is tied to Ultimate Fighting, which changed its ways to gain acceptance. Well if you’re like me, you don’t follow the sport of mixed martial arts other than free replays of cage fights on FOX Sports at midnight when the wife and kids are soundly asleep. I think the world needs to be educated on mixed martial arts. UFC also is growing as a pay-per-view ticket, breaking some boxing (and pro wrestling) records and soon to break them all. UFC’s Dana White might be out to take over the MMA world, but he’ll have to do it without the services of one of the biggest names in the sport. UFC: Ultimate Fighting Championship UFC is the main fighting group in the United States for the presentation of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. UFC is the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the best Mixed Martial Arts organization in the world. Could the best pound-for-pound fighter in the old combat sport (boxing) handle a champion in the new combat sport (UFC).

With the ever expanding number of cards the UFC is putting on each year it would still hurt to lose a guy you can put on a PPV with name recognition. The UFC is without any real competition (baring the PRIDE deal falling through) and isn't in the position to have to overpay for a fighter, albeit recognizable, who has now lost to Kalib Starnes in addition to Anderson Silva and Jason McDonald. The good thing is that UFC is expanding its programming on SpikeTv. With a cable television deal with Fox Sports Net and now Spike TV, and legalization of MMA in California, a hotbed for MMA fandom, the UFC is currently undergoing a remarkable surge in popularity, along with heightened media coverage. Boxing is dead not just because boxing is worse than ever -- which it is -- but also because the UFC is better than boxing on all but boxing's best day. The UFC is spreading globally -- but that's not the TV breakthrough, either. Basically, the UFC is everything boxing should be. MMA in the UFC is now more of a “sport”- not “ultimate” fighting- if you get my meaning.

The art of brutality in its purest, rawest form. That is what UFC offers, or at least it did at one time. Gone are the days of the blood-lust, the modern UFC looks more like a ballet. In its primitive beginnings UFC was the anything goes, bare knuckle blood fest that pulled from underground foreign fighting circuits and targeted the violence nurtured American populace. It was for people who liked to watch men destroy each other, plain and simple. Now, UFC has adapted itself to the mainstream. Instead “Oh, my god, how much more can he take?” commentators are more likely to be heard saying “My god, the ref called that on in a hurry.” What prompted this radical change in style?

When The Ultimate Fighter started on UFC, the producers knew some changes had to be made. Even under the protections of late night cable, a weekly UFC was not going to get away with the dangers of the no holds barred style. What if, for example, someone was seriously injured, or even killed? The adjustments were made, and thus UFC crept into the mainstream.

Once heralded as the ultimate underground fighting promotion, UFC is now regarded as the contender to take over for Boxing as the century rolls on. Pundits argue that the diverse styles that UFC attracts place their fighters above boxers in terms of intelligence and dynamics. UFC fighters can be anything from Ninja’s to street brawlers, it is hard to say, unless you are a seasoned fan, what direction a UFC fight is going to go in. Is it going to be a submission showdown? Or a knockout? This is part of the glamour of the fight.

As UFC moves further and further from its underground roots with charismatic fighters replacing the scarred warriors of past days, it seems nothing can stop it from becoming the sporting event of the future.
